Southern California mountain lions' genetic connectivity dangerously low

(University of California - Davis) Mountain lions in the Santa Ana mountains have lowest genetic diversity ever reported for pumas besides the Florida panther. Of seven male pumas that crossed 1-15 in past 20 years, only one produced offspring. A proposed puma conservation network could help bring "new blood" to the population.
