Doomed data -- When national governments, alternative facts override the quality of statistics

(American Statistical Association) With the recent spate of attacks on official statistics and threats to the broader field of science, the statistical community is convening a panel of high-profile government and industry data analysis experts to address how manipulation, misrepresentation, and abuse of data leads to an ill-informed public, a polarizing political environment, and distrust in scientific research on July 31 at 8:30 a.m. during the 2017 Joint Statistical Meetings (JSM) in Baltimore, Md.
