Defensive bacterial symbionts of fruit flies attack ribosomes of parasitic wasps

(PLOS) Bacteria of the Spiroplasma genus produce toxic, ribosome-inactivating proteins (RIPs) that appear to protect their symbiotic host flies against parasitic wasps, according to new research published in PLOS Pathogens.
