(Oxford University Press USA) Overlapping surgery occurs when a surgeon oversees two operations at the same time. Overlapping surgery is thought to improve efficiency as the primary surgeon performs the critical parts of the procedure while co-surgeons perform the non-critical portions of the procedure. This type of procedure also allows patients faster access to high demand specialty surgeons.
