(Elsevier Health Sciences) Today, supermarket shelves are filled with products that make a variety of claims related to their perceived health benefits. Because there is no uniformity to what these statements mean, consumers are often left confused and ill informed. A new study found that simply making a low-content claim on the label was not a reliable indicator of a product's actual nutritional quality and that these claims may give consumers a false sense of confidence about the healthfulness of their food.
