Step forward in refining acute inhalation studies

(National Centre for the Replacement, Refinement and Reduction of Animals in Research (NC3Rs)) The OECD has recently approved a refined test guideline for acute inhalation studies, the Fixed Concentration Procedure (FCP).The FCP uses fewer animals than currently accepted methods and does not use death as an endpoint. The NC3Rs has been leading efforts to have the FCP accepted internationally for almost a decade, since the procedure was first proposed.
