Periodontitis may raise the risk for developing dementia

(American Geriatrics Society) Gum disease (gingivitis) that goes untreated can become periodontitis, causing loss in the bone that supports your teeth. Periodontitis is the main cause of tooth loss in adults. Periodontitis is also a risk factor for developing dementia. Recently, researchers in South Korea studied the connection between chronic periodontitis and dementia. They published their findings in the Journal of the American Geriatrics Society.
