Calls to keep Puerto Rico's Institute of Statistics independent grow louder

(American Statistical Association) The Government of Puerto Rico (PR) is considering a bill that would eliminate the Puerto Rico Institute of Statistics (PRIS), a move that -- if approved -- would remove the many protections in place for the independent production of statistics in PR. The American Statistical Association together with leaders of the Puerto Rican scientific community and more than 1,800 petition signers are urging Puerto Rico's Legislature and Governor Ricardo Rosselló to keep its statistical agency independent.
