No evidence of 'hobbit' ancestry in genomes of Flores Island pygmies

(University of California - Santa Cruz) Scientists sequenced the genomes of a pygmy population living near the cave in Indonesia where fossils were found of Homo floresiensis, a previously unknown, very small species of human nicknamed the hobbit. The analysis revealed evolutionary changes associated with diet and short stature in the pygmy population, but the researchers found no evidence of genetic elements that might have come from H. floresiensis.
