(University of Maryland Baltimore County) Official stream maps of the Bay watershed are incomplete, and 'if you base management and restoration goals on coarse stream maps, you're going to miss a big part of the picture,' UMBC's Matthew Baker says. UMBC and Chesapeake Conservancy will use LiDAR and creatively apply algorithms to identify and connect streams throughout the watershed, then complete an intensive verification process, to improve stream maps and demonstrate the techniques' efficacy, so they can be applied elsewhere.
