Media exposure to mass violence can fuel cycle of distress 3-year longitudinal study shows

(University of California - Irvine) Repeated exposure to media coverage of a large scale community disaster, such as a mass shooting or a natural disaster, can perpetuate a cycle of emotional distress, with ongoing worry about the future and even greater media consumption and anxiety when future disasters occur, according to a 3-year longitudinal study conducted by researchers at the University of California, Irvine.
