Uncovering the sound of 'motherese,' baby talk across languages

(Princeton University) When using the special communication mode known as baby talk or 'motherese,' mothers change their vocal timbre in quantifiable ways, say Princeton researchers who identified the timbre shift and trained a computer to identify baby talk with only a one-second audio clip.
