After joint replacement surgery, smokers at increased risk of reoperation for infection

(Wolters Kluwer Health) For patients undergoing total hip or knee replacement, smoking is associated with an increased risk of infectious (septic) complications requiring repeat surgery, reports a study in the Feb. 15 issue of the Journal of Bone & Joint Surgery. The journal is published by Wolters Kluwer.
